So today Connie and myself went out to a primary school in the morning to do some library reading. The books we used were the ones we had brought over with us on the flight. We had a group of about 20 young kids between us and we were both really impressed at their standard of reading. I produced a football at the end of the visit and had a bit of a kickabout with the kids, which was great fun. More and more kids joined in with the game and soon enough it was absolute chaos!! We left the school sweaty and tired, but with a great sense of fulfilment.
Then in the afternoon I went out into the community to visit 2 homes who had been affected by HIV and who were clients of Nurture Africa. We got to see up close and personal the stark conditions that these people live in. Both families had young kids to provide for. We chatted with the families for an hour each and got to know their personal situation and how they have been helped by Nurture Africa. The experience was totally different to the morning but equally rewarding.
The IT centre has also been in full swing for the past couple of days. We’ve been giving microsoft word and excel classes to youths – tomorrow we plan to start on PowerPoint.
