At Friends First, we offer investment options to suit all types of investors.
Our Readymade Portfolio Funds are ideal if you don’t have the time or the inclination to manage your own investments, we can invest for you. We decide what these funds will invest in and the management style they will use. You simply pick the fund that suits the amount of risk you want to take.
But if you want to get more involved, you can decide exactly how and where to invest your money. Picking your own funds puts control of your pension firmly in your hands.
With the help of your Financial Broker, you can decide the level of risk you want to take and what funds and assets you want to invest in.
Because after all, it is your pension.
We rate each of our funds using the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) risk scale where a score of 1 indicates the lowest risk and 7 indicates the highest risk.
Try our Investment Suitability Tool to help you figure out your attitude to risk.
The way a fund is managed can affect the level of risk you take when you invest in it, as well as the potential return you could get on your investment.
This is where a fund manager aims to produce returns that are better than the markets they are invested in.
This means the fund aims to produce a return more or less in line with the markets they are invested in.
Absolute (or target return) strategy
This is where a fund manager aims to have a positive return regardless of how the market performs.
It always makes sense to invest your money across different types of asset classes that won’t have their ups and downs at the same time. It’s called diversification. We offer a range of funds that specialise in a single type of asset so you can use them to build your own portfolio.
These are funds that buy shares in individual companies. We offer a range of both actively and passively managed equity funds. Some of our funds will invest in companies from a specific region only (the Eurozone or the US) while others focus on certain themes (investing in ethically screened companies or in companies that pay a relatively high dividend to investors).
These funds invest in bonds that pay a fixed regular income. We offer a range of both actively and passively managed bond funds. Some of our funds will only invest in bonds issued by governments while others only invest in bonds issued by larger companies.
Our property funds pool investors money together to invest in commercial property such as offices, retail and industrial units. We have a fund that specialises in Irish commercial property and another that focuses on UK commercial property.
We offer funds that give easy access to commodity markets. These are designed for people who want to spread their risk by investing in commodities such as gold or corn, whose values can go up and down depending on supply and demand.
Sometimes cash can be considered an investment in its own right, but generally cash funds will be used as a holding fund as you consider where you want to invest.
We also offer funds that use very specialised investment strategies. These could be to invest in equities whilst controlling risk or to capture movements in currencies.
Self Directed Account
For the ultimate in DIY investing we also offer a Self Directed Investment Option. This option puts you firmly in control and allows you to open a stockbroking account and select your own shares or bonds.
It also gives you access to a broad selection of investment options not usually available to pension investors.
