Friends First volunteer staff have been working throughout the year with a group of 5th year students from St. Laurence College, Loughlinstown. This programme is part of the Business in the Community ‘Skills @ Work’ programme and aims to prepare the students for their future.
Activities and initiatives between staff and students included:
The students had their CVs reviewed.
Mock interviews were carried out to help the students in preparing for and performing in a professional business interview.
The students spoke to various Friends First staff members who gave the students ‘Day in the Life’ insights. Through this activity students are given the opportunity to learn about the partnering company which helps them when considering careers and further study options available to them when they finish school.
The students presented in groups on what they did and learned on the programme in the wrap up. The feedback provided was overwhelmingly positive and the students felt the experience was invaluable.
Speaking about his involvement with the programme, Philip Kilmartin, said he was delighted to be involved this year and pleased to see the students benefit from the experience. It was evident that the students were grateful for the opportunity to develop their skills as they were well prepared and presented themselves confidently and clearly, both in their CVs and during the interview.
Friends First believes that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not just a function or department but a philosophy integrated into our company. ‘Skills @ Work’ is part of a wider CSR programme. The Community Programme is one of the 4 pillars of our overall CSR programme.
